Meet Sondra!

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious– is the word to describe this girl.  Sondra - a.k.a Sonny Girl - is a sweetheart with lots of love to give.  She is a mature intelligent young dog.  The best way to describe her is a young dog with an old soul.

She is the first one to the door when her foster mom comes home. She loves attention and prefers to be the complete center of your adoration. Sondra is for the most part mellow.  She is good around most dogs but would do best with a dog that does not continually need to play or challenges/bullies her.  She enjoys playtime with dogs but sometimes it gets to be too much for her and she corrects the other dog – with a bit too much gusto.  She could be a wonderful only dog if you were worked from home and could spend quality time with her or didn’t leave her alone for long periods of time.

Sondra loves her people.  She still likes to jump up people but this is constantly worked on.   For this reason and others – young children (6 and younger) are not a good idea.   She is a total snuggle bug and prepare for a lot of doggie kisses. Sondra would prefer to sleep in the human bed, but has on the occasion done fine in her dog bed near her foster mom overnight, no whining. Be prepared though – she may quietly slip in the bed in the middle of the night to be near you. She needs to be near her human(s).

Sondra does not normally bark, unless confined in a kennel.  To be honest, Sondra does not need to be kenneled as long as she is not left alone for long stretches of time. Sondra does not let you know when she wants to go out – she relies on you to use your good judgment or she goes with the schedule of the other dogs. If she gets up in the night – get up and let her out!

Sondra leaves the cats in her foster home alone other than normal curiosity but not their potty box or their food!!   She stops playing with them if her foster mom asks her to. So far, she does not really play with toys and doesn't chew on things. She currently shares a home with dogs that range in size from a Chihuahua to a German shepherd - ages three to fifteen and a half.  She is experiencing it all and does well being part of a family pack.

A fenced in yard is preferred for this girl especially if she has a dog sister or brother to play with.  She would be bored on a tie out unless you were hanging out with her. This is one very exceptional dog and as all dogs do - deserves an exceptional family.  Are you that family?

Thank You!

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
