Meet Sophie!

Update from foster home:

Sophie is house-broken – no accidents since coming to our house.  Yeah!!  We have been walking her or letting her out every few hours and that works well for her.  She goes the whole night without going out – she has been sleeping at the bottom of the bed so I don’t know if that makes a difference or not.  No way was she going to get in the kennel – and I wasn’t going to upset her anymore by forcing her.

I would guess that her previous owner was a female since she follows me everywhere I go and doesn’t like to let me out of her sight.  She wants to be right by my side so she would be great for someone who wants a devoted companion.  Likes to sit by my feet at the kitchen table or next to me on the coach or bed.  Where ever I am she follows me.  She also does fine with my husband and son but it is pretty obvious that she was bonded previously to a woman.  But she should do fine with anyone who provides her with love. 

For a dog that is so overweight she does great walking and can tolerate walking a good distance.  Surprisingly she is still fairly agile and can go up/down wood stairs, up and down from the couch.  She doesn't seem that interested in the dog food – I am thinking she might have gotten so overweight because someone was giving her lots of people food.  She is not that interested in the dry dog food unless I feed it from my hand (which is not a good idea).  So hopefully both the increased activity and not eating table food will help her with the weight loss.

So far she doesn’t seem to be much of a barker.  I have had her out in the yard and she will bark at someone walking by just to say hi but doesn’t bark long.  So much better than my previous schnauzer did!  And when walking her she hasn’t reacted to other dogs we met along the way.
