Description:

Meet Drake!

Drake is headed to rescue.  He would love to have a new home in time for the holidays!

**Drake will be around 3 months old when he arrives.   He cannot be left alone for more than 3-4 hours at a time even if in a home with another dog. He will need to be let outside every 3-4 hours to relieve himself and needs lots of socialization and human contact.  Drake will need someone who is home most of the time or has a plan in place for his care. **

Update from the foster home:

Drake is very lovable and is all puppy.  He is doing well on potty training and sleeps well in his kennel.   He is also perfectly fine to cuddle in bed next to you.

Drake has a young pup energy and wants to play all the time. Lots of puppy kisses and nibbles for everyone.   He would be fine with other dogs in the household as it is helpful to have a playmate but not necessary.  He can definitely hold his own with other dogs! He always wants to be in the mix of the action.

He is okay with kids, just rambunctious, and needs some more obedience training to learn manners.  He is correctable and I would think he would be okay with younger kids.  He has been good with the kids in his foster home, and these kids like to play rough with dogs.

Drake will take items like nerf bullets or small items the kids leave on the ground, typical puppy behavior, but hasn’t chewed up any furniture or anything major.  He loves to chew on rawhides or treats.

Drake can sit and we are working on the "down" command.  Also working on sitting when he comes in from outside so we can unleash him, he has this about 90% of the way.

He is still frightened with my husband, but he will come to him he is just very submissive with him.  It takes time for him to warm up to men.

Drake crates really well, actually will go in his crate on his own sometimes to get away from the chaos.  He sleeps through the night crated but lets you know when he is ready to get up in the morning. Loves to cuddle in the mornings.

Drake is working on perfecting his housetraining routine.  Sometimes he forgets why he is out there because the other dogs want to play with him.  If I put him outside by himself, he just wants to potty near the door.

He would love a fenced yard to exhaust himself, as he runs through my kitchen and living room with the other dogs at full speed until they get tired.   Or, a nice exercise routine would do well if a fenced-in yard is not available.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
