Description:

Buck has had a very rough past and needs your help for a bright future.

Buck's original family never cared for him the way most dog owners would care for their dog.  They never gave him attention; they never gave him vaccines.  They also never gave him heartworm preventative, so sadly...he became an under socialized, heartworm positive dog who was afraid of his own shadow.  Of course his family couldn't afford treat the heartworms so they abandoned him at a high kill shelter where his fate was sealed :(

Fortunately, there were angels who worked at this shelter and even MORE angels who took brought him all the way to MARS where he would finally have a chance to be a real family pet; to be loved and cherished like any dog should.

Once Buck settled at MARS and completed his heartworm treatment, it became apparent that this was only the start to Buck's journey to forever.  The next hurdle is his socialization with the world.

Buck adores his humans.  He loves all humans bearing treats and he quickly learns to trust new humans after just a couple meetings.  The trick is, new humans need to be grown ups and they must let Buck approach when he is ready.  Buck does not trust small children and should not go to a home with children under 16 because of his fears.

Though Buck has lived with other dogs in the past, he needs a dog free home.  Buck is insecure and was never properly socialized with dogs.   He doesn't know how to read "dog language" so he will quickly start a fight or cause another dog to attack him because of his insecurity.  His insecurity also causes him to start fights with other dogs in his home in an effort to gain a higher pack status.  This is probably a habit he learned at a young age when he had to care for himself just to stay alive.  Buck also has a very high prey drive so a home with any small animal, such as a cat, will not work.

Despite Buck's "issues", he is a fabulous dog with great potential.  We know there is a home out there that will be committed to his success and devoted to his needs.  We know he isn't the "perfect" rescue dog but he has SO much potential that we cannot bring ourselves to give up on this sweet boy.

Buck's nickname is "Snort" for Bucksnort because he would get so excited to see his mom come home from work every day that he would wiggle his big butt, spin his tail in circles and snort up a storm.  Sadly, Buck could no longer live with the resident dog which is why he needs a new foster.

Won't you please take a chance on this sweet boy?  He is so sad and depressed in boarding and it is only a matter of time before he gives up on us and himself.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
