Meet Sugar!

Sugar was sitting in a cold cell in an out of state high kill shelter. We needed to get this girl out of there right away. This shelter only holds dogs for 7 days before killing them. She has now found a foster home to care for her while we look for her new FOREVER home.

Sugar is a very friendly girl who loves everyone, including other dogs and cats. She is on the small side, weighing at only 40 lbs. Sugar is a calm dog who is looking for someone to snuggle with. She truly is a wonderful girl who will surely steal your heart.

A NOTE FROM SUGAR'S FOSTER HOME:

I just wanted to let you know that the weekend went very well.

Sugar is just like her name...very sweet. We've had no accidents in the house and has done well overnight crated. She's quick to do her "business" when let out so she seems to know the routine. I'm thinking of trying her uncrated overnight tonight. I'm guessing she'll just sleep on the floor next to me just fine.

She didn't seem to know any basic commands and so we're learning "sit".
Already, she immediately does it for a treat about 90% of the time. She's a smart little girl!

She tends to follow me from room to room and curls up quite nicely on the floor by me. She likes the kids and is quick to give kisses. We had a little fight between the dogs over a rawhide bone (which really...neither of them want but to carry it around for a few seconds and drop it) so the introduction to her to our dog as been great so far.

I can only think of two very minor things at this point that we are working on:

1) Jumping- She gets excited and jumps up on people. She could definitely knock down a toddler with her enthusiasm. I'm telling her "no" and making her sit each time she jumps.

2) Coming when called- I am quite sure she doesn't have her name down yet but she comes to it when in the house despite that.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
