Description:

Buck is a big boy!  At 86 pounds, he is about ten pounds underweight.  He loves other dogs but can play kind of rough so he needs a playmate that can stand their own!

This 3.5 year old boy will be your best bud and loving companion.

Won't you help this goofy boy find his new home?

Here is an update from Buck's foster family:

Buck is the easiest and best foster dog ever.  If it weren't for our dog Charlie's hatred for him, we would keep him forever. He and our female shepherd Nushka play for hours on end!

Buck would probably be best in a home without small dogs because he likes to play and wrestle.  A small dog would probably be squished in all that commotion!  He is great with our cats but without another dog to play with or human leadership, he may easily get carried away with the cats as well.

He really enjoys spending time with his family.  He loves to go for walks, car rides, you name it!  By your side is his favorite spot to be.  When he first came to our home, he would spend his nights sleeping in the basement on the concrete next to the floor drain.  I think he spent so much time in the shelter, he truly believed that was where he belonged :(

Whoever gets this great boy is getting an amazing dog.  We love him so much. It will hurt to let him go but we know it is for the best as the boys cannot continue to fight.

UPDATE FROM BUCK'S ADOPTIVE HOME, JULY 19TH, 2011:

Buck is doing very well! We've renamed him "Hank", which he learned in about
a week. Gus the Shep/Akita, for whom we got Hank, is happier too - more
energetic, chewing on his bones more (a good sign!), just smiling more. So
it was an all-around good thing for Hank to come with us! He's been pretty
well behaved - a few accidents on the carpet but not regularly - and is a
hit with our friends. I've attached some pictures from the first two weeks
of both dogs.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
