Special Needs: Shirley is a retired mill breeder dog and has has been rescued from that very hard life! She is still very shy around people and will require another dog in her new home to help her adjust to being a pet. A quieter environment with no young kids would be the best fit for Shirley at this time.

Meet Shirley! Life outside of the puppy mill is awesome! I am becoming more confident and follow my foster siblings and Mom everywhere! I won't beg to come up on your lap, but pick me up and put me there and I just love it. It's such a great place to nap when Mom or Dad is watching tv. My foster Mom says I am so smart and cute as a button! Well, more like a little soft black and white teddy bear! I am continuing to work on my housebreaking skills. I have had no accidents during the night so I get to sleep in the bedroom with my foster brother and sisters. Sometimes even on the bed! I love to give my foster mom kisses in the morning so she will get up and feed me! I am still a little nervous when approached. However, now I am learning that an approach results in something special like a chance to curl up on Foster Mom's lap for a cozy nap! But if I see the treat in Mom's hand I am the one who will approach her, and confidently walk up to take it! I'm a hit at the local pet store where I gets to pick out special treats. I also charm the clerks and get plenty of free samples! One of my favorite things to do is to be outside playing in the sunshine with the other dogs. I love to go for walks too, and do very well on a leash! I'm still a little shy, but I'm getting more outgoing day by day. Update: I am really enjoying my summer. I love picnics, walks at the park, snuggling with the cat and dogs, and going visiting with foster Mom. That's cause I get to ride in the car! Yippee! Foster Mom says everyone tells her, "I am soooooooo cute!" People just seem to smile when they see me! When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.
