Description:
Meet Skyla! She spent most of her first couple of months crated, not allowed to be a puppy. Please help us help her. She is sweet, loving, wants to be a good girl so bad, that if you raise your voice even in excitement, she sits down and puts her head down, hoping she won't get yelled at. Skyla is great with other dogs, loves kids and people no matter who or what they look like. Skyla needs to have a home that she can grow up in and enjoy all the things about being a dog. Look at those eyes!!!! UPDATE FROM FOSTER: Skyla is definitely coming out of her shell! She's doing great and we're learning new tricks as we go. She's got SIT down perfectly and is working on lay down and extended stay. She's a superfast learner and is very food oriented which is good for training. She sleeps at the foot of our bed but will go into her kennel without any questions or problems. No whining or barking at all. She is a low energy dog and while she loves to play she doesn't get out of control or go maniac. She doesn't seem to be too keen on playing with humans meaning she'll fetch a ball but isn't interested in rough play... which is a good thing. She takes frequent car rides and does fantastic loving every minute of it. She does very well with small dogs playing with our Cairn Terrier all day. She does great with our cats and just ignores them with the exception of the most playful one who is a silent stalker (he does Rambo attacks to her feet near the bed). She loves kids but doesn't get too excited which is good because I think she would do well with all ages. We haven't had a lot of work on a leash due to the weather but we've started work using a leash in the house to get her to walk loosely. She does however do real good but just wants to walk in front of you versus on the side or behind. Her favorite toy is a little plastic PIG who she shares politely with Odie (our Cairn). She does want to consume ALL the food she can get her mouth on but I think that's a result of previous living conditions... so we do limit her food to morning/night. She's put on some weight which she needed but isn't getting fat at all. She goes outside without any problems and loves playing in the snow. She'll come back in with the call of her name. She is a TOTAL lover wanting to cuddle with you any time she can. She does snore more than any human I've ever met which is hilarious. Basically she's doing great! While she loves playing with the other dogs I think she would do equally well in a only dog environment. Please feel free to fill out an ADOPTION APPLICATION on our main website, www.midwestanimalrescue.org, by clicking on the Form/Applications link under Website Features. Thank You! When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care. Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters. How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
