Description:
From Skippy

I am a sweet and light-hearted young boy, who wants to be part of the family. I like dogs, cats, kids, an dparents.I’m super affectionate and like to be involved with the family. I enjoy talking and playing with people and other animals, including dogs and cats. I am very conversational, but also enjoy a great napping opportunity- I have a healthy appetite for both new experiences and new cuisines.

From Skippy’s Foster Parents

Skippy started coming to our house last fall, and we slowly gained his trust. After trying to find his home, we found that he was walking almost half a mile to our home, nightly, on a paved street, to get food and water. Sadly, Skippy was doing all of this on an injured leg- hence the name “Skippy.” He sustained a prior traumatic injury to his back leg, but he doesn’t recognize it as an impediment, and he still relies upon it for mobility. The leg could be difficult for some to look at because it bends in the wrong direction in a couple of places, but it serves Skippy well for running and playing. Amazingly, after MARS took care of his initial medical needs, they also found a gun pellet in one of his front paws, which has been safely removed. All through the winter, Skippy was walking (skipping) to our house from a  neighboring outbuilding, with a former injury to his back paw, and a healed over pellet in his front. Sad thoughts aside, Skippy is hysterical! He is more of a puppy than a 3-year-old cat. He loves to be chased, loves to chase treats, enjoys a messing with thick silk ropes and other toys, and is the first to cuddle up with our other cat or one of the us humans; he has perfected napping on every piece of
furniture in our home, and his newest nightly spot is between a human’s leg. Skippy has a very good appetite, is totally potty trained, and has great manners otherwise. We still need to correct him at times, when he claws the furniture, but it is very seldom and he has never done any damage to our fabric or leather pieces (and usually it’s because his foster sister is napping on the arm of the chair/ sofa). Skippy loves to curl up next to a good window, for hours, and seconds later can be heard galloping through the house like a mini horse. A few of my favorite things about Skippy are his silly nature, and his obsessive need for independence, but also to not miss a minute of the action with our family. I also admire his resilience. Clearly a human shot him within 2 years of him hobbling onto our property, and I suspect that a human may be at fault for his back leg injury. With that, and he was a little obstinate at first, he transitioned from no food, shelter, and siblings or human contact, into a cheerful housecat; we have a lot of predators by us, so I imagine his days were full of fear of being hunted or hurt, and desperation to survive. Now, he’s waited on, so he has more time to spend hunting for new treasures and spaces indoors.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
