Description:

Meet Stella!

Stella is a gorgeous Red Bone Hound mix, who her foster mom says is a total couch potato.

She is a sweet dog who LOVES kids.  She has that wonderful bay bark of a hound, but doesn't use it much.  She is very food motivated, and will do anything for a treat.  She will sneak food off the counter if allowed.  Stella has not had much in training and her foster mom is working with her, but she will need someone committed to continue working with her and helping her be the best family companion!

Could you be that family?  Please help us show Stella the warmth of Minnesota people and how much we love dogs and want them to have the best lives possible.

UPDATE FROM STELLA'S FOSTER

Stella is enjoying life in Minneapolis, but she would love a big fenced yard to
sniff and be free too. She walks on a leash when on a paved path, but on the grass
or in wilderness areas she prefers to follow her nose! Inside the house, she is
mellow and about as sweet as they come. She is in no way needy and is very happy to
find her own corner to curl up and sleep. She gets lots of exercise with us, which
makes home time peaceful and loaded with belly rubs, kisses if we want them, and
lots of playful interaction when you approach her.

Stella has attended some training and is able to sit, stay, down, off and leave it!

She is a beautiful, fast runner. It would not be effective if she had to stay
indoors for most of the time. She did not chew or destroy things at all, but for
kennel time she enjoyed a raw bone or a kong! She is very food motivated! She
whines only initially when getting carried to the kennel but happily sleeps there
all night. She is well potty trained with no accidents whatsoever even on day one
with us. She gets along with our other dog who is a puppy and in her face all the
time! She is capable of saying no and also getting away when she needs it. She
would need a strong person to train her to be more slack with the leash, but if she
can run in a big yard that is fenced, that will seem to tire her out effectively
too! She is worth refining! And keeping her somewhat "tethered" will help her to
get there! We are definitely falling for her with each day but we cannot keep her.
Wonderful sweetheart.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
