Description:
My name is Bridget and they say I am six years old. I used to lead a much different life than I have in the last few weeks since I was rescued from death row and placed in my wonderful foster home. The truth is, I’m really liking this household dog life now. I’d absolutely love to be adopted into a permanent home, but before you take me into your wonderful home, there are a few things my foster parents would like you to know about my personality. ”¢ I used to be a professional stray dog, and so I’ve learned to be really quiet, maneuver through tight spaces, and scamper away quickly to loud sounds, until I get used to things. ”¢ They say I’m a real sweetheart, eager to please. I even like kids around here (10 years and older). I am learning how to express and receive affection, so please commit with me that you’ll continue this because I like it a lot. ”¢ I enjoy hanging out with you, laying near your feet, being petted anywhere (especially behind the ears) but just know that I might be under the table or alongside the wall rather than in front of you; it’s just what I’m comfortable doing. ”¢ I really enjoy food now on a regular schedule so I’ll eat well for you and wait patiently for treats. Did I mention how much I love food?!? ”¢ I haven’t socialized with dogs enough to know how to play with them and I’m not quite sure about this whole thing with “dog toys” yet. I enjoy dogs and would do very well in a home with another dog. My foster sister dog (9 years old) even shares her beloved couch with me. ”¢ I do my outdoor potty stuff really quickly in the backyard and then I’m done! I am so smart. ”¢ I started taking daily walks and so I am slowly learning to smell the grass; just now learning what this ritual is all about but I know I like being outdoors. ”¢ My health is good and my ears stand straight up a lot of the time. Ready to listen to you give me praise! ”¢ My foster parents are so proud that I have never had an accident in the house. I’m totally housebroken! I love the praise that I get from them when I do my “duty”!! I circle around in joy and wag my tail. ”¢ My foster parents even gave me my own room to rest in whenever I want. I love the bed but I usually sleep on the floor right by my foster dad because he is so nice and I really like the soft voice he uses when he talks to me at night. *TOP TEN REASONS TO ADOPT AN OLDER DOG* 1. Older dogs are housetrained. You won't have to go through the difficult stage(s) of teaching a puppy house manners and mopping up after accidents. 2. Older dogs are not teething puppies, and won't chew your shoes and furniture while growing up. 3. Older dogs can focus well because they've mellowed. Therefore, they learn quickly. 4. Older dogs have learned what "no" means. If they hadn't learned it, they wouldn't have gotten to be "older" dogs. 5. Older dogs settle in easily, because they've learned what it takes to get along with others and become part of a pack. 6. Older dogs are good at giving love, once they get into their new, loving home. They are grateful for the second chance they've been given. 7. What You See Is What You Get: Unlike puppies, older dogs have grown into their shape and personality. Puppies can grow up to be quite different from what they seemed at first. 8. Older dogs are instant companions -- ready for hiking, car trips, and other things you like to do. 9. Older dogs leave you time for yourself, because they don't make the kinds of demands on your time and attention that puppies and young dogs do. 10. Older dogs let you get a good night's sleep because they're accustomed to human schedules and don't generally need nighttime feedings, comforting, or bathroom breaks. If you've been looking to include a great German Shepherd in your life... come and meet THIS girl! She will be your loyal companion for the rest of her life! Please feel free to fill out an Adoption Application on our main website, www.midwestanimalrescue.org, by clicking on the Form/Applications link under Website Features. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care. Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters. How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
