Meet little Gus!

Gussy is possibly the smallest dog around and is as cute as they come. He is sweet as pie and knows his name! Gussy's mission in life is to be your companion and to sit in your lap.  In fact, Gussy will paw at you until such lap is available, so resistance is futile :-) Although this sounds like a great match for a sedentary person, Gussy also loves to walk and purposefully trots on a leash to keep up with the foster and canine friends.

He sometimes starts barking as an alert but overall is not a barker.  He is working on his house training and sometimes uses a belly band so he can follow his foster around the house. Gussy is smart and will likely learn well if kept on a schedule.  He keeps his kennel clean during the day while his foster mom is at work, and sleeps with his humans through the night without an accident.

He gets along with dogs - large and small - but strongly prefers humans. Check out his video of chasing his foster mom around the house with the rest of the pack.

Gussy is missing all his teeth - but not his appetite. The little man can eat and eat, and could benefit from gaining just a bit more and building some more muscle. His thyroid needs a bit of help with daily meds, and it's very easy to put it a tiny half-pill into his food dish and he eats it up at breakfast and dinner. His coat is growing back nicely with thyroid meds, too.

Because of Gussy's diminutive stature, we recommend that his forever home does not have small children. In his current foster home, Gussy enjoys hanging out with his 4-year-old dog-savvy human sister (see their picture), but if a child does not understand or cannot be relied upon to be careful and gentle, Gussy is too fragile for such situations.

Gus would make a great addition in a calm household without too much coming and going - and a lot of cuddling on the couch.
