Description:
Meet Sophie, Sophie was rescued from a puppy mill and she is very glad to be out of that place! Sophie has a little something to say too: "I've come a long way since living with my foster family. We all get along great and love each other, but I'm still looking for my forever home & someone special to love me. I'm six years of age, and I know that might concern some people. But that's fairly young as Tibbies go (we are very long-lived and are not given to early aging), so I can look forward to many good years to enjoy with my forever family. I'm laid back and quiet most of the time, although I do get excited about going outside to the yard---it's soooo much fun back there! A secure fenced yard is still a must for me at this point as I really don't like to walk on a leash---I much prefer my freedom to roam and observe the back yard at my leisure. My very favorite thing is getting picked up and then laying on the couch between my foster mom & dad & getting tummy rubs---it always makes me smile. Although bones are awesome too! Car rides are not on my favorites list, as I have a tendency to get carsick sometimes... I tend to bond strongly to one or two people and seem to prefer my foster mom, but my foster dad is pretty cool too. I still stick close to my foster mom for safety and security, but I don't shrink in fear when people I don't know pet me now. I like my foster doggie siblings very much, and I bonded to them right off the bat, so I would do best with another laid back dog for company in my forever home. My ideal forever home would be with a quieter, stable one or two person family with no children, as I'm still skittish around them. Beyond the issue of children, I truly am a gentle sweetheart. I have a wonderful, soft-hearted personality, & I'm adorable to boot! As I am still very shy and timid of strangers, my new family will have to be very patient and give me lots of time and TLC to gain my trust. I have learned to really love the comforts of home with a family, so if you are looking for a little princess dog to pick up & snuggle by you on the couch, or by your feet while you're on the computer, then look no further---I'm your girl!" This is the report of a puppy mill survivor's transformation: Sophie was a puppy mill mamma for 3 years and simply did not know the luxuries of grass, gentle touch, or playing in a yard. The behaviors of surveying her yard and sounding the alarm are exactly those of a Tibetan Spaniel - she is a wonderful example of her breed and we invite you to learn about the breed and why they make excellent family pets. Sophie is looking for a forever home where she came "be a dog". Please feel free to fill out an ADOPTION APPLICATION on our main website, www.midwestanimalrescue.org, by clicking on the Form/Applications link under Website Features. Thank You! When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care. Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters. How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
