Description:

Meet Brody,

Brody came to us from a rural animal shelter where his time had run out.  We saved his life and now he is looking for his new forever home.

Brody is a very calm and loving boy.  He loves his people and loves to cuddle.  This sweet boy  wants nothing more than a place to call his own.  He truly is a wonderful dog.

AN UPDATE FROM HIS FOSTER HOME:

Brody is housetrained and has not had any accidents in the house, other than his initial attempts at marking his territory. He crates well during the day when I am at work. He was a bit reluctant to go in at first, but would go in just fine if I tossed a treat in there first. He is starting to go in without the treat now. He doesn't whine about being in there. My dog is crated a few feet away.

He likes to pick up random items for chewing on, usually a shoe or one of my son's toys, but usually drops it right away when corrected.

He doesn't jump up on people and does well with both of the kids. He has even had some limited exposure to the nanny's one year old and did very well.

Brody and Rufus (the resident dog) love to play together. They tend to wrestle in the front room. They do well at playing rough, but watching for people in the area. Even though it looks pretty rough, if I walk up to them to stop it, they break apart right away and just lay down. They seem to stay away from any people when they are playing.

When Brody is not wrestling with Rufus, he is a very mellow dog who just likes to lie around and be petted.

Brody still needs some basic manners training. He doesn't jump up, but he does bark quite a bit any time someone walks by on the street outside. He doesn't know any of the basic commands, such as sit or stay. When we first brought him home, he did not respond to his name at all. He is starting to respond to his name, and we are working on the sit command.

He still pulls on the leash at the beginning of the walk, but usually a few minutes into it he starts to realize that I am walking him, not the other way around. We ran across a couple of guys yesterday on our walk and when they approached us to talk, Brody started growling (which made Rufus decide he should growl too), so we will be working on that too. Brody has been fine with everyone that has come to the house though.

Since Rufus sleeps in my room anyway (usually in his crate, but with the door open) I have decided to keep both dogs in my room at night. Their crates are open if they want to use them. I put a baby gate in my doorway so they can't leave the room. Other than two attempts the first night to get up on my bed, Brody has done great. No accidents, nothing has been chewed on when I wake up, and he isn't jumping the gate (which I am sure both dogs are physically capable of). Since there is a small amount of room (between a queen size bed and two large dog kennels, my room is not all that big) the dogs are not making any attempt to wrestle during the night.

He really is a sweet dog. He just needs to have a little bit of training and he could be as close to perfect as you are going to find.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
