Description:
What kind of dog is Bradenton you may ask? He is a good dog - mix of a typical "Bassett" friendliness, strong sense of smell and laid-back attitude. He loves everybody and is eager to give kisses and hugs to anyone who is passes by.
Playful Buddy (Bradenton) has already visited dog park and he gets along very well with other dogs. He is always polite and tries to greet everyone new entering the park. Because of his keen sence of smell and love of running and playing, especially, in the dog park, we watch him carefully and try to always stay close.
He is a confident, content dog who doesn't bark even when neighbor's dog tries to push his buttons with excessive barking. He stays in the kennel and may whine just a little bit - he simply asking you to stay and not to leave him for a long period of time. So far we didn't let him stay alone for more than 6 hours. He had a couple of small accidents. But he knows that his parents try to take him out as much as possible, watch his signals and praise him for making his business outside.
If you are looking for a walking or jogging companion he is a right fit for you. Buddy loves taking walks, we try to entertain him with several short and long strolls a day. Sometimes he wants to stay just a little longer: enjoy a fresh air and smell interesting scents outside. Therefore, house with a deck and especially fenced backyard will be ideal for him. He definitely has hound blood in him, already proved it by tracking a bunny and finding foster mom's lost glove. Did you, know? In trailing ability, Basset's nose makes him second only to the Bloodhound.
He is not fond of car rides. We took him to dog park (6 min away) and to play dates with his German Shepard friend (15 min away) and he was sobbing most of the time. Although, hugging and holding him firmly along with some treats helps tremendously. He doesn't scratch or bark just soflly complains.
Fortunately, he doesn't shed excessively and was ok to take a bath. He is patient and doesn't rush into the house after a walk. That's very convenient because he can sit and allow you to wipe his paws .
We have already taught him how to shake a paw, he knows command "Sit", good on leash and have quick reaction to commands like No and Stop and now we we are training him to keep his curious nose away from countertop and table. He is definitely food motivated...more like "I live for food type of dog" , which is why he needs to stay fit and have a good amount of daily exercise.
