Meet Sundown!

The name is Sundown, and I am one of the stars from the KSTP Channel 5 News report that was done on 4/24 on the puppy mill I came from! I am the typical "golden boy" as I love to play with other dogs and am excited to see you! Because I am old enough to have been affected by my circumstances, I would prefer to go to a home that has another dog, because that is what I have known all my life. Love and attention were not requirements of The Mill! So could you give me a big brother or sister, please?!?! I was lucky enough to escape the conditions of a puppy mill, and would love my second chance to be in your loving home! So go ahead, and apply! See you soon!

Thank You! Arf!

AN UPDATE FROM HIS FOSTER:

We've changed Sundown's name to Reggie. Reggie is a great dog, very laid back. He's pretty calm most of the time, which always makes it surprising when he gets into trouble. He loves to chew (watch your computer cords). He is working on housetraining and it's coming along. He is very good in his crate. He is still a little unsure of people, but he meets new people every day and is starting to believe that people are good things. He LOVES to be petted and really likes having his belly scratched as well. He was refusing most treats for a while, making training difficult, but we're starting to figure out what he likes and we are beginning to teach him some commands. He likes to visit the dog park where he spends most of his time eating sticks and wrestling with his buddy from home. He loves to go on walks and is excellent on a leash. He does get a little anxious around a lot of puppies (i.e. puppy class was a bit overwhelming for him, he thinks they are immature). I think their energy tires him out. He also shows a lot of interest in the cats (he lives with 7 of them). He especially doesn't like it if the cats are eating or staring at him. Our cats are very comfortable with dogs and think they should be allowed to eat the dog food right out of the dog's bowl. He's also becoming more familiar with life inside a home, but becomes startled occasionally by things he doesn't understand. He reacts by barking at those things that are unfamiliar (the computer beeping, the television when it makes odd sounds, a pile of blankets that are thrown on the floor, etc). His current weight is 45lbs. Also, I'm pretty sure that he's a hound/lab mix, he's adoption page says Golden Retriever. He has long ears and tons of extra skin, especially in the neck area.

Please feel free to fill out an Adoption application on our main website, www.midwestanimalrescue.org, by clicking on the Form/Applications link under Website Features.

Thank You!

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
