Description:

Hi, I'm Shorty and I am looking for someone to snuggle!!!

My foster mama says I am just a wonderful little guy to have around - I'm sweet, snuggly, tiny, and very well behaved! She says she's impressed that I am potty trained and do my business outside because it's been REALLY cold and I guess little dogs have trouble sometimes in this weather. Not me - I wear my sweaters like a champ, and the trick is that I just go potty super fast so I can get back inside and cuddle. Easy Peasy!

There are two other doggies in my foster home - 25lb beagle mixes - and I like them! We nap next to each other, but if my foster mama is around I'd much rather snuggle on her than them, but that's ok.  Sometimes they want to play, and just recently I've started to think that's pretty fun! Still just trying it out though - even though I get along with them, my real bond is my human, so as soon as she comes into the room I stop what I'm doing to follow her around and see what's up.  I do like my furry buddies, but I'd also be ok being an only doggie as long as my humans are around enough to give me the attention I crave.  Foster mama says I'd be a "couch potato's dream dog", whatever that means.

I'm really mellow, but just started discovering 'play' as I mentioned, sp I get little bursts of silliness with stuffy toys and like to whip those around, or chew on chewy toys.  When I come inside after potty and know that mealtime is next, I get my little butt wiggling and start bouncing around the kitchen. It's just so exciting to get food!!!

I am currently heartworm positive, but don't let that deter you!! Other dogs don't need to worry, as it is only transmitted through mosquitos, and even if there were any mosquitos around in January, their regular heartworm preventative stuff takes care of that.  MARS will give me the treatment (a shot at their clinic)  in February/March, and I'll just have to lay low and stay mellow for a bit after that because I'm not supposed to over-exercise.......ummmmm, have I mentioned that my favorite thing to do is lay around and snuggle? I don't think I'll have any problem with that! So, please don't pass me by just for this little 'obstacle' - MARS will make me all better and can answer any questions you have about it.

If you're looking for a little buddy who will just adore you and be your little snuggly sidekick, I would love to meet you!!!

Please feel free to fill out an ADOPTION APPLICATION by clicking on the ADOPT button below.

Thank You!

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
