Description:
Tiny and cute, but needs a special home!Bowser requires a quiet home, no young children, a fenced yard and another dog to help him learn how to be a family dog. A family with Chihuahua or puppy mill experience is a plus. Bowser is coming from a rural puppy mill. He has never lived a day of his life as a normal pet in a home, with the love and attention a pet deserves. It is possible he has never even been petted in his life. He is being rescued from that terrible life, but now he needs a special forever home to help him learn what it is like to be a dog. Because Bowser is a puppy and is coming from a rural breeder, it is likely that he will not be potty trained when he arrives. He will also need help with socialization and adjusting to life in a home environment. Fenced yards and a home with other stable dogs to show them the ropes are best for dogs coming from this type of situation. Find out how rewarding it can be to teach this poor boy how to love and be loved. UPDATE FROM BOWSER'S FOSTER: Bowser has come a long way since he arrived here in my home a week ago. He was so scared when he arrived that he would have accidents when I tried to pick him up because of his fear. He was also having problems with his crate training so we needed to start all over with that process. The only thing that really made little Bowser happy was the company of my resident small dogs. He was so excited to be with them that he would wag his tail so exuberantly that his whole back end would wiggle! Since then Bowser has started to accept me into his world – he follows me everywhere and wants to be near me. He jumps up on my leg to be picked up but is still timid and a bit skittish when I bend over to get him - he cowers a bit but no longer runs the other way. Once he is in my lap he seems content but startles if I move too quickly. He is also having a blast with my pups! I do live alone and work from home so Bowser has had a quiet environment and a lot of attention and consistency - he has responded WONDERFULLY, much more quickly than I anticipated. His personality is shining through and he always manages to put a smile on my face! :) Bowser is going to need a special forever home – an adult only home that is quiet and calm, has a small canine friend for him to learn the ropes from, and someone that will have the patience and time to work with him to overcome his fears. He is a great loving pup and will blossom into a great companion if given the time and patience he deserves. Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters. How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
